The criminal court of justice is similar to any work place which could be seen in different companies. However, criminal justice messages and communication are set in a formal tone in order to have a controlled environment. The communication of the people within the office is said to be downward in respect of the hierarchy of the department. In addition, criminal court of justice is known to be conservative in its views and decisions therefore it is given due respect.
In the field of Justice all viewed in a formal context. Everything that are presented whether it is the defendant, a witness, a statement or the likes is needed to be in a proper procedures to show respect as well as substance to what lawyers are stating. Moreover, there is a need for people in the court of justice to have a set of communication skills with the control of emotions and language without forgetting the main point of the proceedings. Therefore, individuals who are with this type of setting is required to have the proper knowledge and background of the type of language, intonation, and actions in order to communicate their ideas without going moving out of the rules in court.
The most common type of message which is communicated in the criminal justice is dependent on the types of people who are within the environment. However as stated by R. Nelson and Lutzker that there is a need for administrators to create control in the environment or the work place in order to make a much logical result of the work. Thus, the controlled environment is believed by the criminal justice administrators and employees as the most effective way of communication with in their environment. Moreover, this kind of communication is viewed and respected by the outside communities which then results to a certain type of character. (1997)
As most people know, the form of communication in the justice system is similar to a form of debate. Any debate which is viewed by any individual would create a thought that messages are being conveyed by the receiver and the sender (the active participants). The communication between these participants is being mediated by another party in order to create rhythm and logic in the process. In court a judge and the jury are the ones who are responsible for creating judgment to what is presented by the participating groups. Through the help of the judge and his knowledge and power in the criminal justice system, he is able to manipulate the proceedings as well as the actions which could only be done within the court room.
It is also stated that one of the most important factor in criminal justice courts is having parties which do not hinder your goal. In being a competitive environment such that of the criminal justice court or office, there is a need to create allies or associates which does not hinder and individual but rather increases the possibility of attaining the goals that were set. With such environment at hand, individuals see this kind of environment as aggressive thus all their actions are predicted to be regarding their personal gain.
In general all the messages which are conveyed are mostly of downward. Downward communication in the justice courts are often seen and moreover, the process this type of communication is seen as a hierarchy of process in which creates a form of division depending on the category. The downward process is stated to, “starts with a superior officer and flows down through the ranks to whoever the information is going to.” (McKinney, 2008). Therefore, the process of this system is from the top ranking officer until the lowest rank available in the office. With this process an easier message is conveyed and the importance of rank is given attention.
In the downward system of communication in the justice system, there are five different messages in which are conveyed. First is the job instruction with is the communication done in order state certain tasks as well as to performance of an individual. Job instructions are the most important but basic need for communication in order to get the job done immediately without confusion. The second is the job rationale which is relating to the more general tasks and goals which are needed to be reached by the people in the work place. As a group that has work that is related to one another, it is only proper that the whole office of the criminal justice knows the proper actions that must be taken to get to such goal. Most of the time, the goals are posted in the vision mission of the criminal justice. With this basis, the employees are able to see what actions they must seek as well as the proper values they must have to increase the possibility of attaining the goals that they wish. The next is the procedure and practice with the work place. In order to be mutually connected with the people and the work in the criminal justice. As an office that relates to people and their needs, it is important that procedures must be given special attention. There are individuals who want to get ahead with other while some just wants to get things done immediately no matter what it takes. Thus, the procedure and practice must be put into mind in order to not forget the main tasks of the office as well as its duties to the people. (McKinney, 2008)(Solan 2005).
The third is one of the most crucial parts of the downward process which is the feedback. The feedback is mostly what is needed by most employees and offices in order to be more progressive in doing their task. There are times where in employees may it be the superiors or the regular workers needed to have feedbacks to have better ways to work in their task. Providing feedbacks for the people in the office creates challenges and somehow changing what had been done in the past. Through feedbacks modern and innovative ways of communication and processing of work is advanced. Some may view that feedbacks are very subjective and others might see it as a negative result to the person. (McKinney, 2008)
The last is indoctrination which desires to create motivation to the employee. Through indoctrination, the desire of improving the work done by the employees that would result in the more polished and faster tasks done. In the case of the criminal justice office, motivating employees to do their best in the most important factor in solving cases as well as providing protection to the people who truly need it. (McKinney, 2008)
